Injectable Dermal Fillers

Injectable Dermal Fillers Treatment History

Fillers have long been known in aesthetic medicine and have proven themselves well as an alternative to plastic surgery.

The timeline of Injectable Dermal Fillers:

  • The history of fillers is no less interesting than the drug itself:
  • 1875 - Viennese surgeon Robert Gershuni first used melted vaseline oil to create testicular prostheses.
  • 1893 - Gustav Adolph Neuber reports the use of small fragments of fat taken from the upper arm to reconstruct depressed facial defects after osteitis tuberculosis.
  • 1902 - Dr. Eckstein modified the Gershuni method by replacing petroleum jelly with paraffin. Eckstein can rightfully be called the father of contour plastics, since he first began to introduce fillers for aesthetic reasons: to fill wrinkles, breast augmentation, change the contours of the forehead, correct the volume of the cheeks and zygomatic arches, and eliminate deformities of the nasal dorsum.
  • 1934 - Mayer and Palmer discover hyaluronic acid. Ophthalmology is one of the first industries in which it begins to be applied.
  • 1949 - Hungarian scientist Bandi Balazs began research on hyaluronate. He managed to isolate hyaluronate from the umbilical cord tissue under different ionic conditions.
  • 1970 - Hyaluronic acid was approved as a proven effective remedy for arthritis - after receiving positive results in animal testing. As a result of the experiment, a pronounced clinical effect with a decrease in symptoms was noted.
  • 1990 - hyaluronic acid is widely used in aesthetic medicine and cosmetology due to its unique moisture-retaining, antiseptic and antioxidant properties.
  • It is still used for various cosmetic purposes, and research on its properties and possible applications continues.

So, what is Dermal Filler?

  • Fillers are non-surgical rejuvenation gel preparations that help get rid of deep wrinkles and the effects of ptosis (tissue prolapse due to gravity).
  • Fillers replenish and lift tissue.
  • They are injected into the area of the cheekbones, nasolabial and glabellar folds, the corners of the lips, under the eyes.
  • They are used to smooth skin with post-acne marks.

What kind of fillers there are?

Fillers for the face are primarily divided into absorbable and not. The latter (they consist of silicone and polyacrylamide) were popular at the beginning of the 21st century, but since then cosmetology has made great strides, and they are hardly used anymore - mainly due to the fact that they can only be removed surgically, and the risk of complications pretty high. Today, most fillers are based on hyaluronic acid, but there are options with a different composition. Let's consider each of them in more detail.

  • Fillers based on hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic filler, as a rule, solves two problems at once: it corrects imperfections without surgery and triggers the production of its own hyaluronic acid. Fillers based on hyaluronic acid vary in density and last from 6 months to 1 year. Soft fillers are used to treat nasolacrimal grooves. More dense - to correct wrinkles around the lips. Long-acting fillers are suitable for "sculpting" the cheekbones and chin, including for getting rid of such a problem as ptosis.
  • Fillers based on calcium hydroxyapatite. Fillers based on it are more durable. As a rule, correction is required only 1.5–2 years after the procedure.
  • Lipofilling. Our own fat can act as a filler. Very little is required. The advantage of using this filler is that, as a rule, it does not cause rejection, since our own cells are used. A clear result of lipofilling may appear in 1-2 months, but it will last for several years.

Where are fillers used?

  • Lips - With the help of fillers, cosmetologists correct the shape and contour of the lips, as well as give them volume. They can visually lift the corners of the lips. Depending on the problem, experts choose compositions of different densities. For example, for a rejuvenating effect and adding volume, more plastic and dense fillers are used.
  • Nasolabial folds - Fillers in the nasolabial folds give an immediate effect. Beauticians advise to judge the final result after 2 weeks, when the edema after the procedure completely subsides.
  • Between the eyebrows - Creases between the eyebrows are also smoothed out with fillers. But hyaluronic acid is not able to stop active facial expressions, therefore fillers will not relieve such wrinkles for a long time, and other solutions to the problem will be required.
  • Skin around the eyes - The area under the eyes is characterized by various problems. The first is wrinkles. The second is dark circles. And the third is edema. In this delicate area, experts advise the use of low-density fillers.
  • Nasolacrimal grooves - These lines are quite common. But only a few people know that they can be corrected with fillers. The main thing is that at the time of the procedure there should be no hernias in this area, otherwise it is easy to get the opposite effect and additional edema.
  • Cheekbone correction - A professional with extensive experience should work with the filler. Especially in the areas of the cheekbones and chin. The fact is that the composition introduced under the skin interacts here with the bone tissue, which means that it can stay in these areas much longer.
  • Nose - Contour correction with fillers is also used to correct the shape of the nose - for example, if you need to hide a slight asymmetry or hump, slightly raise the tip. In addition, fillers in this area are used to correct imperfections left after rhinoplasty.

Dermal Filler for:

  • Those who want to look younger.
  • Those dissatisfied with wrinkles or sagging facial skin.
  • Those suffering from self-doubt due to aging of the face.

Dermal Fıller Duration:

  • A dermal filler procedure can take anything from five to 30 minutes per area treated.

Dermal Filler Recovery Timeline:

  • Edema may occur after treatment with dermal fillers, but this should not last more than two to three days.
  • The patient can return to normal activities immediately after treatment, but it will be advised to stay out of the sun.

Possible Riscs for Dermal Filler:

  • Swelling
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Development of tiny bumps under the skin.
  • Pain around the injection site
  • Discoloration of the skin
  • Bruises
  • Allergic reactions

Aftercare:

There will be an immediate effect,

but not the same as the final result, which will appear after 2-3 weeks. It is very important not to touch the skin in the first 6-8 hours after the procedure, do not use any cosmetics for at least a day and sleep strictly on your back. Sports, sauna and alcohol (for about 2 weeks) and flights (in the first few days) will also be banned. And do not forget to ask your doctor how to properly handle the injection sites during the recovery period.

Dermal Filler FAQ

Filler are the injections of special preparations, often based on hyaluronic acid, into problem areas of the face. The procedure gives additional volume to the lips, cheekbones, reduces nasolabial folds, wrinkles around the eyes, corrects the jawline, nose and other imperfections.

Correction with fillers is indicated for age-related changes - tissue ptosis, wrinkles and folds, dry and flabby skin, decreased firmness and elasticity, age-related volume loss. Also, correction is carried out in case of defects in appearance that are not associated with aging, for example, with contour deformities of the nose or chin. Sometimes patients want to highlight the cheekbones, align and sharpen the oval of the face. Filler injections into the lips allow them to be enlarged and reshaped. Most often, injections are made in various parts of the face, neck, décolleté, chest, arms.

Yes. In case of insufficient injection of filler, asymmetry of parts of the face, the doctor may inject an additional dose of the drug. With excessive correction, in some cases, it is possible to use hyaluronidase. This enzyme breaks down the hyaluronic filler. The surgeon will determine after the examination how the situation can be corrected in your case.

In Turkey, salary and living costs are lower than in Europe, and the government subsidizes the health sector. Therefore, Dermal Filler treatment in Turkey can be done at a much lower cost without sacrificing quality and standard.

With over 1.5 million medical tourists per year, Turkey is one of the three world leaders in health tourism. The healthcare system in Turkey is strictly monitored and regulated to ensure the best quality and highest standard of treatments. Experienced doctors together with a professional team take care of the patients in a professional and competent way. Your Dermal Filler treatment will be done by a professional dermatologist using international brands. Therefore, it is safe to undergo Dermal Filler treatment in Istanbul.

You save money and costs, benefit from international quality and avoid long waiting times. In Turkey, you get the appointment for your Dermal Filler treatment at short notice, in Germany you have to wait weeks. The short flight time from Europe is another advantage.

Of course, you can and should even combine the pleasant with the useful! Dermal Filling doesn't take a long time. To get your desired skin youth, you just make a short break from your discovery tour in Istanbul. After the treatment, you can continue your sightseeing without any worries.

Most dermal fillers today are consist of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring polysaccharide found in skin and cartilage. Some people may need more than one injection to achieve a wrinkle-smoothing effect.

Dermal fillers vary in chemical composition, durability, and softness. For example, lips are used with softer fillers, while harder fillers may be required to enlarge cheekbones. Your doctor will work with you to determine the best type and amount of filler needed for your specific problem areas.

The process takes between 15 and 30 minutes.

Depending on brand, patient's body reaction, area of application and the thickness of the filler it can last from 6 months to couple of years,

Recovery time varies for each patient and for each type of filler injected. You can resume most activities right away, but it is generally recommended that you avoid intense physical activity for the first 24-48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising.

Unconditional contraindications to fillers are: pregnancy and breastfeeding; skin diseases, inflammation, rashes in the area of the procedure; exacerbation of herpes and other viral infections; autoimmune diseases; blood clotting disorders.

If the procedure is carried out in a cosmetology clinic with certified drugs and is carried out by an experienced cosmetologist in compliance with all injection techniques, drug migration is impossible. In addition, to prevent unexpected effects, the doctor will recommend the rules of facial care and a course of rehabilitation.

According to experts, there are no age restrictions for fillers. Fillers can be injected at any age, but the injection technique, type and volume of preparations will vary slightly.

You should also avoid strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours after the procedure. The blood pressure and heart rate that normally rise during exercise can increase the severity of swelling and bruising.

Previously, a biopolymer gel was used. It is a synthetic, non-absorbable substance that was used to fill the nasolabial folds, lips or other areas of the face. The advantages of the gel were its inexpensive cost and the duration of the effect (over 5 years). But today, biopolymer gel is no longer used due to the danger to health and the high risk of complications - prolonged edema, inflammatory processes, leakage of the gel into neighboring zones, the formation of capsules around the substance and deformities of the face. Substandard procedures are then extremely difficult to correct. Gels based on hyaluronic acid do not create such a long-lasting result, are more expensive, but safe. They have predictable effects and controlled administration.

Both are injected into the forehead, nasolabial folds or chin and, at first glance, there is no difference between them. But in reality, they act in completely different ways. Muscle relaxant injections do not fill wrinkles and do not correct facial contours. Their goal is to prevent the appearance of new wrinkles and the transformation of wrinkles into creases by blocking muscle activity. Muscle hypertonicity and active facial expressions are the main indications for other injections. The combination of both provides a pronounced anti-aging effect.

Yes, of course, before the procedure, the patient is given an anesthetic cream on the correction area.
